Financial Times reports: UK PM Theresa May says Brexit deal is close

Losing the party's support in the Commons would mean possible defeat on the budget and a no-confidence vote for Theresa May

The news comes after the Democratic Unionist Party threatened to vote against the Budget, and potentially bring down the Government, in opposition to a backstop plan that would treat Northern Ireland differently to the rest of Great Britain. Dimitris Avramopoulos, the European Union commissioner for migration and home affairs, said Barnier had briefed the body on the state of play in the negotiations.

As manufacturers of cars and other goods warn the Theresa May government of job losses and other impact of Brexit, a report promoted by former prime minister Tony Blair on Thursday flagged the adverse fallout on services exports and cautioned that a trade deal with India will be "hard".

Democratic Unionist Party Brexit spokesman Sammy Wilson told Ireland's RTE radio on Thursday the party's 10 members of parliament would vote against the United Kingdom budget and would consider voting no-confidence in May if the British government crosses the DUP's red lines in Brexit talks.

Theresa May relies on DUP support in key votes because she does not have a majority in the House of Commons.

He said the only "visible systematic" customs checks between Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom would mean scanning the barcodes on lorries or containers, which could be done on ferries or in transit ports, and filling out online customs declarations.

The person was not authorized to discuss the preliminary information publicly and spoke Sunday on the condition of anonymity. The group included four sisters, two brothers and several longtime friends who had gathered to celebrate a birthday party.

Writing in the Telegraph, Sammy Wilson MP, the DUP's Brexit spokesman, said Mrs May was pursuing "the road to parliamentary defeat" because his party would vote against any deal that included the proposed backstop.

He suggested all 10 DUP MPs could vote down this month's budget to "pull the government back into keeping its promises".

While London wants to regulate that by a future trade deal with the European Union, the bloc insists on an emergency fix in case negotiating new relations takes longer, or fails.

"The Prime Minister is a unionist".

But Cabinet sources said senior ministers were expected to consider the backstop plan when they met this afternoon with a view to getting the backing of the full Cabinet next Tuesday.

Liverpool vs Man City: three things we learnt
The Algerian was a thorn in Liverpool's side and came close to scoring in open play on a couple of occasions before the penalty. We know how complicated it is playing in this stadium and how risky they are.

It will follow another Whitehall meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee, which will be attended by Mr Lidington and his colleagues Dominic Raab, the Brexit Secretary, and David Mundell, the Scottish Secretary.

Both the European Union and Britain have signalled progress in recent days, boosting sentiment in financial markets which fear the most damaging no-deal Brexit.

The EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier on Wednesday said Britain must accept possible checks on goods moving between its mainland and its province of Northern Ireland, saying Brexit would trigger the need for customs, value-added tax and compliance checks with EU standards.

Labour demands that Britain retain "the exact same" perks it now has within the EU's customs union and single market - something May's so-called Chequers plan does not meet and which the EU rules out since London chose to leave both.

He added: "Agreement is within reach if we have the negotiations on October 17 at the next council meeting".

The meeting was apparently productive, and they even discussed another summit between Kim and President Trump, Reuters reported . It added that there was an agreement to hold working-level talks to arrange a second summit between Kim and Trump.
