Saudi crown prince breaks silence on 'heinous' Khashoggi killing

Surveillance image purports to show Saudi vehicle scouting wooded area before Khashoggi killing

Many countries responded with skepticism to the version of a brawl involving Khashoggi and rogue officials, putting Saudi Arabia on the defensive even as it hosted an investment conference this week that many dignitaries skipped because of the scandal.

A statement from Saudi Attorney General Saud al-Mojeb attributed the conclusion about a calculated killing, one of the initial findings of a joint Turkish-Saudi investigation, to information from Turkish counterparts.

A columnist for The Washington Post, Khashoggi was last seen on October 2 when he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

Roughly three weeks ago Khashoggi went missing after visiting a Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey and was eventually revealed to have been killed.

Most outspoken has been Germany's Angela Merkel, who has halted Germany's arms exports to Saudi while the killing is being investigated, calling Khashoggi's death a "monstrosity".

Discussions about the "situation" in Lebanon will reportedly be held in Saudi Arabia in the "next hours" in parallel with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri's presence in the Kingdom, al-Joumhouria daily said on Thursday.

"It's a repulsive incident and no one can justify it", Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, 33, said at an investment forum in Riyadh on October 24.

Trump, the kingdom's staunchest Western ally, was quoted by the Wall Street Journal as saying Prince Mohammed bore ultimate responsibility for the operation that led to Khashoggi's death.

Striking a defiant tone, Prince Mohammed told global investors at a major conference in Riyadh that the furor over Khashoggi's killing at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul would not derail the kingdom's reform drive.

Saudi Arabia is the lynchpin of a USA -backed regional bloc against Iran but the crisis has strained Riyadh's relations with the West. Dozens of Western officials, bankers and company executives shunned a big investment conference in Riyadh this week.

Pentagon sends 800 troops to US-Mexico border as migrant caravan advances
They retain the right of self-defence, but border patrol officers will still be the ones physically stopping illegal migration. It would invoke the same section of immigration law that Trump cited to back up his Muslim travel ban , the Times said.

"Jamal Khashoggi's body still hasn't been found".

Turkey suspects Mr Khashoggi, 59, was dismembered inside the consulate.

Khashoggi's eldest son, Salah, has flown out of Saudi Arabia, two sources close to the family said on Thursday.

Conflicting reports surfaced about whether Turkish investigators had searched a well in the garden of the Saudi diplomatic compound as part of their probe.

Turkish media have also published a security camera image allegedly showing a vehicle belonging to the Saudi Consulate "scouting" a forest in the outskirts of Istanbul before Khashoggi was killed. "An all-women government would be better for Lebanon", he said.
