Women, and Especially Women of Color, Made History Last Night

"I am so honored to share both the ballot and the stage with the many visionary, bold women who have raised their hand to run for public office", said Ayanna Pressley, who became the first black woman elected to Congress from MA.

The high-profile midterm cycle that produced a record number of women contenders and candidates of colour means a number of winners will take office as trailblazers.

This year, women not only increased their numbers, but the new class of lawmakers also includes women from a wide patchwork of backgrounds, adding to a Congress that is expected to be more diverse.

Democrats Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of MI will be the first Muslim women to serve in Congress, while Boston City Councilwoman Ayanna Pressley will represent Massachusetts' 7th Congressional District in the next Congress.

Tlaib ran unopposed in her race to represent Michigan's 17th district and has become the nation's first Palestinian-American woman in Congress, and one of two Muslim women elected on Tuesday.

A Republican who served in the House will become the first woman to represent Tennessee in the Senate.

Deb Haaland is one of the first Native American woman to win a seat in Congress. Haaland, a Democrat, will represent New Mexico's 1st Congressional District.

Juventus vs. Cagliari - Football Match Report
Srna's experience could be key but his lack of pace could put him at a serious disadvantage against the dynamic Douglas Costa. Cagliari are a hard opponent and they are the team that has covered the most ground in the league and are unsafe in the box.

Commenting on the Democrats taking the House, CNN's Van Jones pointed to the diversity of candidates that won seats in this midterms.

US Representative Elise Stefanik, a Republican representing upstate NY, was previously the youngest woman when she was elected in 2014 at age 30. Although the House of Representatives fell under control of the Democrats, many were disappointed at the lack of greater electoral successes.

One self-described feminist claimed that women who voted for Republicans were the "foot soldiers of the patriarchy", but, luckily for white women, she is considering saving them from being "brainwashed" by men.

"Together, we made history!" Democrat Janet Mills of ME and Republican Kristi Noem of South Dakota are the first women elected as governor in their state.

Democrat Mike Espy, who will face Mississippi Republican Representative Cindy Hyde-Smith in a December runoff, could become the state's first black senator since Reconstruction.

White women have been a target of attack by progressives all year, but many such complaints surfaced during the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was falsely accused of sexual harassment in October.

Meanwhile, at 31, Democrat Lauren Underwood also won her race to become a Congresswoman.

President Trump, "I Think We'll Make a Deal With China on Trade"
He and Xi are due to attend the G20 summit in Argentina, which starts at the end of this month. He stressed that the United States has made significant progress in trade with China.

With most of the results now known, women in the USA have achieved a number of significant firsts and played a major role in shifting the figures in Congress. In 1982, 58 per cent of women voted for Democrats and 41 per cent voted for Republicans.

Nearly 80% of voters in a CNN exit poll said it's very or somewhat important that more women and racial minorities be elected to public office, with two-thirds of white voters agreeing. By Tuesday, 183 women Democrats were on the ballot for the House of Representatives.

The historic totals capped off a campaign season in the wake of President Donald Trump's election that was defined in large part by female activism.

And several of the female candidates broke records of their own.

Women won big in the US midterm elections on Tuesday (November 6), with USA media predicting more than 100 women winning election or re-election in races across the country.

From Florida to New Mexico, these candidates brought platforms that stood for a range of issues such as affordable health care, gun safety and climate change.

Preparing for Election Day
Every state is up significantly over 2014, but Texas and Florida are way up thanks to competitive races in each state. The Voter Service and Polling Centers across the state will be open through Election Day, except for Sunday, Nov. 4.
