Paul Manafort Allegedly Shared 2016 Polling With Russia-Linked Associate

Manafort’s Lawyers Accidentally Revealed an Exchange Between the Trump Campaign and a Man Trained by Russian Military Intelligence

In the court papers filed Tuesday, Manafort's lawyers claimed that "he attempted to live up to the requirements of his cooperation agreement and provided meaningful cooperation relating to several key areas under current government investigation". This is a common error in court filings, cleaned-up confidential government documents intended for release, and releases under various countries' freedom of information acts.

Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, provided polling data to a close associate during the 2016 campaign with instructions to share the information with Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, according to a report.

It also discloses that Manafort and Kilimnik discussed a peace plan for Ukraine on one or more occasions and met in Madrid during the transition.

Prosecutors have previously said they believe Kilimnik has ties to the military intelligence unit the GRU, which allegedly hacked the Democratic Party and leaked damaging emails while Manafort ran Trump's campaign operation.

Manafort has always been in the crosshairs of the Mueller team, having been charged early on in the Russian Federation investigation.

The defense filing on Tuesday was supposed to refute the claims by the special counsel that Manafort lied to Mueller's team despite agreeing to cooperate.

Bolton is believed to have left Turkey without meeting the president due to their dispute over the Kurds . We urge every country to take meaningful action to crush terrorism and denounce its ideological roots.

Manafort's lawyers appear to have made a mistake in the filing, allowing redacted portions to be revealed via copying and pasting the text into a new document.

Manafort's lawyers said their client had no reason to misrepresent the truth in his 12 interviews with investigators late previous year.

The documents reveal that Manafort lied about sharing polling data for the 2016 presidential election with Kilimnik, and about meeting with the Russian in Madrid, during the campaign.

Manafort's attorneys reported he has been suffering from severe gout, anxiety and depression - conditions that may have affected his ability to recall events during his tumultuous service on the Trump campaign.

Prosecutors have also accused Manafort of lying about his contacts with Trump administration officials, which defense lawyers deny.

"The second example identified by the Special Counsel is hearsay purportedly offered by an undisclosed third party and the defense has not been provided with the statement", Manafort's attorneys said.

A debate on the plan will begin on Wednesday, with a vote, which had been deferred in December, due to take place next week. Lawmakers are resuming debate on the deal Wednesday, before a vote expected to be held around January 15.

"These circumstances weighed heavily on Mr. Manafort's state of mind and on his memory as he was questioned at length", the lawyers wrote.

The judge in DC federal court who has overseen his case, Amy Berman Jackson, gave him the opportunity to respond before she would hold a hearing about the facts of the situation.

Manafort reached the plea agreement with Mueller in September after a jury found him guilty of eight charges of tax evasion and bank fraud by a jury in the U.S. state of Virginia in August.

Federal prosecutors convinced a jury in August 2018 to convict Manafort on eight of 18 bank and tax fraud charges in a trial in NY.

The longtime Republican consultant already faces a possible maximum, 10-year prison sentence in his District of Columbia case under federal guidelines for conspiring to cheat the Internal Revenue Service, violate foreign-lobbying laws and tamper with witnesses. If he is found to have breached the deal, he would lose any sentencing credits for acceptance of responsibility, prosecutors said.
